Baiju Gohil of Robotic Hair Restoration Long Island says that a current trend in hair transplant surgery is the growing popularity of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Unlike the more traditional Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT), which is when a group of hairs are taken from the back of the scalp, resulting in pain and prolonged recovery. FUE is minimally invasive and occurs when one hair graft is taken at a time from the donor area. “This technique is less painful, is associated with a faster recovery time, and has virtually no scarring,” says Gohil. “It is typically accomplished by the surgeon using a manual or motorized handheld device. As one can imagine, performing this procedure can be very tedious and technically demanding for the surgeon.”
