Four people associated with a Port St. Lucie, Florida, medical spa are in police custody after local and state officials uncovered several issues with the facility. Some of those issues included procedures that were performed by a physician’s assistant, rather than a licensed surgeon.

While those four were taken into custody, the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) noted that its investigators are still looking for a fifth person. That individual, however, may have already fled the country. That person’s name has not been released.

In 2022, investigators began looking into Cosmetica Plastic Surgery and Anti-Aging. The state health department suspended its license that year and, in 2023, the company’s business registration was revoked, meaning it was no longer allowed to operate.

When discussing the investigation and announcing the arrests on Tuesday, the PSLPD’s Assistant Chief Leo Niemczyk described it as an interesting case. He pointed out that, when the company was founded, it was a legitimate operation with a doctor. Niemczyk explained that the staff ended up taking over operations and they were performing procedures without the doctor’s knowledge.
