Indiana Medical Board: Med Spas to Register Beginning January 1, 2027

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board announced on September 30, 2026, that medical spa registrations will officially go live on January 1, 2027. Businesses that meet Indiana’s medical spa definition will be able to register by selecting “Apply for a New License” under Online Services on the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency (PLA) homepage.

While the announcement finally provides direction on the registration process, it does not answer many of the open questions surrounding implementation of Senate Bill 282. As we have noted in prior coverage, the Board has not yet issued substantive guidance clarifying several key provisions of the law, including the scope of the physician-office exemption, the practical requirements imposed on responsible practitioners, delegation issues, and other operational compliance questions. These unresolved issues have been a recurring theme in Indiana medical spa discussions throughout 2026, and stakeholders continue to await additional rulemaking or interpretive guidance from the Board.

For now, medical spas should prepare for the January 1, 2027, registration deadline while monitoring for further guidance that may clarify how SB 282 will be administered and enforced.
