Allergan Presents Early Data on Skin Quality Treatments for Patients Taking Weight-Loss Medications
Allergan Aesthetics presented data from two small clinical studies evaluating skincare regimens and dermabrasion treatments in patients taking medical weight-loss medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, at the Science of Skin Summit. The studies reported improvements in several measures of skin quality.
One study evaluated a 12-week skincare regimen in nine participants, while a second six-week study evaluated a combination of DiamondGlow dermabrasion treatments and skincare products in 11 participants who completed at least one post-treatment assessment. According to the company, investigators observed improvements in measures including dryness, skin texture, crepiness, skin tone evenness and wrinkles.
The findings were presented as interest grows in aesthetic treatments for patients experiencing skin quality changes associated with significant weight loss and the increasing use of GLP-1 medications.
The company reported high participant satisfaction and improvements in perceived age-related appearance, though the studies were small and additional research will be needed to determine whether the results can be replicated in larger patient populations. Allergan researchers acknowledged that further study is needed to better characterize the findings.
