Asheville Wellness Founder Faces 10 Felony Charges in GLP-1 Case

July 17, 2026

Gavel with handcuffs and legal document. An Asheville, North Carolina, wellness business owner is facing 10 felony charges after authorities alleged she prescribed and distributed the weight-loss drug tirzepatide without a medical license.

Priscilla Ann Hendrix, owner of Blackford Wellness, was arrested July 8 and charged with five counts of practicing medicine without a license and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, according to arrest warrants and multiple local news reports. The charges stem from allegations that Hendrix diagnosed patients, prescribed tirzepatide and distributed the medication during transactions that occurred between July and September 2025.

Investigators allege Hendrix represented herself as a nurse practitioner on prescription-related documents or used paperwork that identified a nurse practitioner as the medical provider. Court documents cited by news outlets allege customers paid for prescription weight-loss medications and related services based on those representations.

The allegations center on Blackford Wellness, a business that initially described itself to state regulators as a nonmedical wellness center offering body-contouring and wellness services. According to reporting by Inc.com, the company later marketed semaglutide and tirzepatide weight-loss programs that included medication, supplies and practitioner access.

Former customers interviewed by local media said they spent thousands of dollars on prefilled syringes they believed contained GLP-1 medications. One customer told reporters she spent more than $3,000, while another reported spending more than $5,000.

According to Inc.com, Blackford Wellness advertised monthly GLP-1 weight-loss plans and stated that laboratory results would be submitted for physician approval, though reports indicate the business did not publicly identify the physician, prescriber or pharmacy associated with the medications.

Hendrix was released on a $60,000 secured bond. The charges remain pending, and the allegations have not been proven in court. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 17.
