WHO Identifies Falsified Batch Numbers in Medical Product Alert N°2/2024: Falsified Ozempic (semaglutide)

The World Health Organization (WHO) released a Medical Product Alert describing three falsified batches of Ozempic that were detected in Brazil, the U.K. and the U.S. in 2023. Ozempic’s manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, confirmed for the WHO that the products detected has misrepresented their identity and source, and where not manufactured by Novo Nordisk. The false identifiers are as follows:

  • Batch number LP6F832 is not recognized.
  • The combination of batch number NAR0074 with serial number 430834149057 does not correspond to genuine manufacturing records.
  • Batch number MP5E511 is genuine, but the product is falsified.

Health care professionals are encouraged to report adverse effects, lack of effectiveness and suspected falsification to the National Regulatory Authorities/National Pharmacovigilance Centre.
