Product layering greatly effects the efficacy and side effect profile of skin care products because ingredients react and affect each other. This lecture will look closely at cleansers, moisturizers, serums and sunscreens, and discuss factors that should be considered when designing a regimen. Careful consideration should be made about the order of products used be in the regimen (step 1, step 2, etc.). Issues such as pH, type of fatty acids, penetration enhancers, and the presence of reactive molecules such as peptides and benzoyl peroxide need to be considered when designing a step-by-step skin care regimen. This talk will discuss product categories but not any particular brands.
Understand the various considerations when choosing the order of products in a regimen;
Learn which ingredients affect the efficacy and side effects of other ingredients; and
Learn what order to apply products in a regimen to improve efficacy.
